The dangers of PERC

Perc is also a toxic chemical that poses health and environmental concerns if used improperly. Symptoms associated with exposure to high levels of perc include depression of the central nervous system and damage to the liver and kidneys. Perc is still the current industry standard, and is used by almost all dry cleaners and cleaning center distribution operations. Perc is also classified as a pollutant in water regulations, and its disposal is regulated as a hazardous waste. It can affect the environment if it enters the ground in liquid form through spills, equipment leaks, or improperly handled waste.
