What Makes Someone Unsuitable For Gastric Lap Band Surgery?
For many people today gastric lap band surgery has come as something of a lifesaver but, unfortunately, it is not a suitable option for everyone. If, for example, you suffer from gastrointestinal problems such as severe esophagitis, ulcers or Crohn’s disease lap band surgery would not be advised. Similarly, people with severe heart or lung disease which puts them at risk for surgery generally or from a disease which makes them prone to bleeding in the area of the esophagus or stomach would also be a poor candidate. The list of other conditions which would rule you out is extensive but includes such things as portal hypertension, cirrhosis and chronic pancreatitis.
