F1 star debunks number plates story

On the 16th June 2008 The Telegraph newspaper ran a story about Lewis Hamilton buying the registration number LEW 1S. They reported that he paid £200,000 to a Bob Lewis who had bought the number a year earlier for £50,000. In the motorsport news on 26th June 2008 Lewis categorically denied that he had bought any personalised number plates. He was quoted as saying “That sounds about the worst number plate I’ve heard of” and added ” I’m not stupid enough to spend a couple of hundred grand on a number plate”
