Railroad and Pocket Watches

I was just reading a little bit about the history of pocket watches, and I found it very interesting. It turns out that in the old days railroad workers used to carry pocket watches to help keep from crashing trains. I never thought about how trains kept from crashing in the old days when it was less automated. The article I was reading said that even today railroad workers are required to carry accurate watches and can be fined if they have a spot check by their superiors and they don’t have the correct time. I can definitely see how important it is for people running trains to have the right time so they don’t crash!
